We will start with the part most agencies will not tell you. There are 480 searches a month for a bricklayer in the whole of Australia. Search is not your channel, and anyone selling you a content plan has not looked at the numbers.
"*" indicates required fields
Australian search volumes, Semrush.
Three channels, three jobs. A business usually needs all three, staggered rather than launched at once. It is the same model our Brisbane digital marketing agency runs across every industry we work in, only the numbers underneath it change.
META ADS
This is where the work actually comes from. Bricklaying is won on builder relationships, on photographs of finished work, and on being visible to the people who hand out subcontracts. Meta does that job far better than search ever will in this trade.
GOOGLE ADS
Useful for the small pool of direct homeowner searches and for rendering, and honestly it is a small budget. There is no point bidding hard on 480 searches a month.
SEO
Worth doing so that the people who do search find you, and worth being realistic that ranking first for 480 searches is not a business plan. Get the profile and a handful of pages right, then stop.
On most trades we point search at whatever produces work and let it compound. On this one the honest answer is that the search pool is too small to compound. The plan is to capture what exists cheaply, then spend the real effort on the builder relationships and the photographs that actually fill a year.
The work behind each one, so you can tell whether a proposal is describing effort or just naming a platform.
THE SLOW ASSET
A properly built Google Business Profile with photographs of finished work, correct categories and a review process. Then a page for rendering, and a page for the direct homeowner work. That is genuinely most of what search can do here.
THE FAST LEVER
A small, tight account rather than a broad one. Negative keywords so you stop paying for brick prices, besser block prices, Bunnings, bricklaying courses, bricklayer wages and apprenticeships, which on this trade is most of the volume. There is no point running a large budget against a market this size.
THE ONE THAT ACTUALLY WORKS HERE
The main channel on this trade, not the supporting one. Photographs of finished brickwork, visible to builders, developers and homeowners planning a build. It reaches the people who actually award this work, which search does not.
We start from where the work actually comes from. On this trade that is builders, not searchers, so the plan leans on Meta Ads and a strong profile rather than a large SEO programme. A small Google Ads budget captures the direct homeowner work. We would rather tell you that than sell you three channels you do not need.
Not a strategy document. These are the three pages we would put up first for a Brisbane bricklayer, and one of them is deliberately not about bricklaying.
Built around “rendering”
The only search on this list with real commercial demand behind it, at five times the volume of the trade name. It is homeowners wanting to cover old or mismatched brickwork, usually before selling. If you render, this page is worth more than everything else on your site combined. If you do not, say so and skip it rather than chasing enquiries you cannot service.
Built around “brick fence”
Brick fences at 590 and brick repair at 320, plus the trade term itself at 480. Small numbers, and together they are almost every homeowner in the country who wants a bricklayer directly. Worth one honest page covering fences, piers, repairs and letterboxes, priced roughly, so the few who do search find something useful. It will not fill a year and it will pay for itself.
Built around the builders, not the searches
The third page is not a page at all. It is your work, photographed properly and put where builders and developers see it. Nobody awards a brickwork contract from a Google search, they award it because they have seen the work or somebody vouched for you. A site that shows finished jobs clearly, with the QBCC number and the scale you can handle, is a reference tool rather than a lead generator. That is what this trade actually needs.
Tell us your suburbs and the jobs you want more of. We will come back with the real search numbers for your patch and the three pages we would start with. Fifteen minutes, no obligation, and you keep the research either way.

We are telling you not to buy a large SEO programme. There are 480 searches a month nationally for a bricklayer. Get the profile, the photographs and two or three pages right, which captures most of the demand that exists, then stop. Anyone selling you a monthly content retainer against that number is selling you something they know will not work.
Less than most trades, and it should. Agency fees usually work one of three ways: a percentage of ad spend, a flat monthly retainer, or a base fee plus a percentage above a threshold. On this trade the honest engagement is small and mostly one-off, because there is not enough search demand to justify anything larger.
It is, and we deliberately route it to landscapers rather than bricklayers. Above about a metre it needs engineering and approval, the searchers are usually thinking about a garden rather than brickwork, and landscapers tend to win them. We would rather tell you that than have you chase a term you will lose.
Builders. Nobody awards a brickwork contract from a Google search; they award it because they have seen the work or someone vouched for you. That means photographs, being easy to verify, and being visible where builders are. It is less satisfying than a ranking report and it is what fills a year.
Because it is the one term here with real commercial demand, at 2,400 a month, five times the trade name. It is homeowners covering old or mismatched brickwork, often before selling. If you render, that page is worth more than the rest of the site. If you do not, skip it.
Mostly no. That traffic is people looking at photographs for ideas and pricing materials, not people hiring a bricklayer. Same with besser block at 1,900. They look like demand in a keyword tool and they do not behave like it.
Brick prices, besser block prices, Bunnings, bricklaying courses, bricklayer wages, apprenticeships and how to lay bricks. On this trade that is most of the search volume, which is another way of saying the market is smaller than it looks.
Yes, for the small pool of homeowner work and for making you easy to verify when a builder checks you out. They will not change your year the way they would for a mechanic, because there is far less search volume for them to influence.
Photographs of finished work, a profile that makes you easy to check, and a second builder relationship. The real risk in this trade is depending on one customer, and no amount of marketing fixes that as directly as another builder does.
We look at where your work currently comes from, whether your QBCC number and finished work are visible anywhere, and whether rendering is worth a page for you. If the answer is that you do not need us, we will say so. You get it in writing and you keep it either way.
