TILER MARKETING

Three times more people search for bathroom tiles than for a tiler. They are choosing what goes on the wall, months before anyone thinks about who lays it.

YOU WILL BE IN GREAT COMPANY

14,800

“BATHROOM TILES” DOES 6,600 A MONTH. “TILER NEAR ME” DOES 1,900.

Three and a half times the trade name, and it is a search most tilers assume belongs to the tile shop.
Add bathroom renovation at 3,600, waterproofing at 2,900 and splashbacks at 2,400 and the specific searches run about eight to one against the trade name. The catch is honest: someone searching bathroom tiles may be browsing a tile shop rather than looking for a tradesman. That is exactly why the page has to answer the question they will ask next, which is how much it costs to lay them and who is responsible if the shower leaks.

WHAT CUSTOMERS ACTUALLY SEARCH FOR

Australian search volumes, Semrush.

“Tiler near me” at 1,900 is the map pack search, won on reviews and proximity rather than anything you write. It is a small number and it is the only search on this list where somebody has actually decided they need a tiler.
Everything above it behaves differently. Tiles, renovations, waterproofing and splashbacks are chosen slowly, compared on photographs, and won on content rather than proximity. Waterproofing in particular is a licensed job people do not know they need until someone tells them.

CREATE THE DEMAND. CAPTURE IT. THEN OWN IT.

Three channels, three jobs. A business usually needs all three, staggered rather than launched at once. It is the same model our Brisbane digital marketing agency runs across every industry we work in, only the numbers underneath it change.

01

Creates the demand

META ADS

Tiling is bought with the eyes and the decision starts on a photograph. Meta reaches people mid-renovation, and finished bathrooms in suburbs they recognise do more than any description of your workmanship.

02

Captures the demand

GOOGLE ADS

Catches them the moment they search, including the ones Meta warmed up. Fastest of the three to produce a quote request, and the one that works the week a renovation date is finally locked in.

03

Owns the demand

SEO

Takes over the same job searches Google Ads is paying for, permanently and for free. Slowest to arrive, cheapest to keep, and the reason your paid bill should fall over time.

The bit that makes it more than three separate things

Google Ads tells us within about six weeks which searches actually produce jobs rather than browsing, which matters more here than in most trades. SEO then gets aimed at those. Meta retargeting picks up everyone who looked at your bathroom gallery and did not call. And as SEO ranks for a job type, we pull the paid spend off it and move on.

WHAT EACH CHANNEL ACTUALLY INVOLVES

The work behind each one, so you can tell whether a proposal is describing effort or just naming a platform.

01

THE SLOW ASSET

A real page per job type rather than a Services list, each carrying photographs of your own finished work. Google Business Profile built properly, categories right, and a review process that runs after every job. This is what moves the map pack and the renovation terms.

02

THE FAST LEVER

Campaigns split by job type, not one campaign called Tiling. Negative keywords so you stop paying for tile prices, Beaumont, Bunnings, tile shops, DIY tiling, tiling courses and tiler wages, because a large share of this volume is shopping for product rather than labour. Form tracking as much as call tracking, because these jobs get quoted from photographs.

03

THE ONE MOST TILERS SKIP

The one most tilers skip, and the trade is built for it. A finished bathroom photographs better than almost any other trade output, and renovators spend months looking at exactly those pictures before they ever search for a tradesman.

How we decide what you actually need

We start from which jobs you want more of, not from which service we would like to sell you. A tiler subcontracting to builders who wants direct renovation work needs bathroom pages and Meta Ads, not more trade referrals. A newer business with no reviews needs Google Ads while the SEO catches up. We will tell you on the call if one of the three is not worth running for you.

THE FIRST THREE PAGES WE WOULD BUILD YOU

Not a strategy document. These are the three pages we would put up first for a Brisbane tiler, why those three, and the numbers behind each one.

01

Bathroom tiles

Built around “bathroom tiles”

SEARCHES/MO 6,600MOSTLY STILL BROWSING

The biggest number and the least commercially ready, so treat it honestly. Most of these people are still choosing tiles rather than tradesmen. The page that wins them answers what comes next: what it costs per square metre to lay, which tiles are harder to work with and why, and what large format does to the price. Be useful at the browsing stage and you are already on the shortlist when they are ready.

02

Waterproofing

Built around “waterproofing”

SEARCHES/MO 2,900LICENSED WORK

2,900 a month and the most commercially serious search in the trade. Waterproofing is licensed work with a warranty attached, and it is the single most common cause of a bathroom being ripped out twice. Someone searching it either has a leak or has been told it needs doing properly. State your licence, state the warranty, and explain what a failed membrane costs to fix. Nobody haggles on this one.

03

Your suburbs

Built around “bathroom renovation”

SEARCHES/MO 3,600COMPETING WITH RENOVATORS

3,600 a month, and worth being honest that you are competing with full service renovation companies rather than other tilers. That is winnable if you are clear about what you do and what you do not. A tiler who says plainly that they handle tiling and waterproofing, and can recommend the other trades, is easier to deal with than a renovator who subcontracts everything and marks it up.

We will do this with your business, not a generic example

Tell us your suburbs and the jobs you want more of. We will come back with the real search numbers for your patch and the three pages we would start with. Fifteen minutes, no obligation, and you keep the research either way.

THE TWO CUSTOMERS THAT BEHAVE DIFFERENTLY

Someone browsing tile photographs and someone whose shower has been leaking into the bedroom are at completely different points, and only one of them is ready to book.

Our Brisbane SEO team builds the slow side and our Google Ads team covers the gap while it ranks.

Still choosing tiles

“Bathroom tiles”, 6,600 a month.
Months from booking anyone, comparing photographs, and often headed to a tile shop rather than a tradesman. Worth reaching because it is where the decision starts, and worth being realistic that it converts slowly.
Show up when locals are searching

Your Google Business Profile, suburb pages, and local listings optimised so customers in your area find you first.

A website Google wants to rank

Technical fixes and service-focused SEO that make your site easy for Google to understand and trust.

Reviews, rankings, and real results

Build your reputation through reviews, with monthly reports tracking rankings and leads from organic search.

Has a problem to fix

Waterproofing, leaks, tile removal.
Waterproofing at 2,900 and tile removal at 1,300. Licensed, urgent, and usually the result of somebody cutting a corner the first time. These people are not price shopping, they are looking for someone who will do it properly, and a page about membranes and warranties converts better than any gallery.
A technically sound foundation

Site speed, crawlability, schema markup, and Core Web Vitals sorted so Google can index and trust your site.

Content Google and customers love

Service pages and suburb landing pages written to rank and convert, not just fill space.

Authority that stacks over time

Backlink building and on-page optimisation that compounds month over month.

READ THE PROPOSAL PROPERLY

WHY TILER MARKETING IS DIFFERENT

Three things come up in nearly every proposal we see a tiler bring us.
✕ THE USUAL

Chasing the biggest number

Bathroom tiles is the biggest search so it gets the budget, and most of that traffic is people browsing product with no intention of hiring anyone yet. It looks like demand and it converts like a magazine.
✓ WHAT WE DO

Balancing browse against buy

Waterproofing 2,900 and tile removal 1,300 are smaller and far readier to buy. The tile pages earn organic traffic; the waterproofing pages earn the paid budget.
✕ THE USUAL

Quoting per square metre

A rate per square metre invites comparison against every tiler in the city and hides everything that actually differs, which is preparation, waterproofing and whether the walls were straight to begin with.
✓ WHAT WE DO

Quoting on what goes underneath

Membranes, falls to the waste, substrate preparation and how you handle a floor that is not level. It is the invisible half of the job and it is the reason two quotes differ by thousands.
✕ THE USUAL

Silence on waterproofing licences

Waterproofing is licensed work in Queensland and a failed membrane is the most expensive thing that can go wrong in a bathroom. Most tiling sites we audit do not mention a licence or a warranty anywhere.
✓ WHAT WE DO

Licence and warranty up front

QBCC number, waterproofing licence and the warranty on the membrane, stated plainly. Anyone who has been through a leaking shower knows to ask, and being the one who answered first usually ends the search.

HOW WE DO TILER MARKETING

We start with the jobs you want more of and work backwards to the searches.
01

We ask which jobs you want

Not “more work”. Bathrooms, kitchens, splashbacks, waterproofing, outdoor tiling, or builder subcontracts. Each is a different search, a different customer and a very different margin. We check what your suburbs actually search for before recommending anything.
02

We build a page per job type

Real pages, not bullet points on a Services list. What large format does to the price, how waterproofing actually works, what tile removal involves, and photographs of your own bathrooms. Licence and warranty where people can see them.
03

We separate browsing from buying

Tile pages earn the organic traffic, waterproofing and renovation pages take the paid budget, because one converts and the other browses. Google Business Profile rebuilt, reviews after every job, and reporting on quotes by job type rather than total website visits.

WHEN A TILER SHOULD NOT SPEND ON MARKETING

Worth saying before you enquire, because it saves everyone three months.

If builder work already fills your year at a rate you are happy with, marketing changes nothing except how busy you feel. And if you have no photographs of finished bathrooms, spend a fortnight collecting them before anything else, because in this trade the pictures are the argument and there is no substitute.
We would rather tell you that on the call than three months into a retainer. Get in touch and we will look at your suburbs and your job mix and tell you what is realistic.

FAQS

Got questions? We’ve got the answers.

Because most of that 6,600 is people choosing tiles, not choosing a tiler, and a lot of them are headed to a tile shop. It is where the decision starts, so it is worth ranking for, but it converts slowly. Be useful at the browsing stage and answer what comes next, which is what it costs to lay them.

Agency fees usually work one of three ways: a percentage of ad spend, a flat monthly retainer, or a base fee plus a percentage above a threshold. Percentage models get expensive as you scale and quietly reward the agency for spending more of your money. Ask which model an agency uses and why before you ask for a number.

Waterproofing at 2,900. It is licensed work with a warranty attached, and someone searching it either has a leak or has been told it needs doing properly. Nobody haggles on a membrane. If the paid budget goes anywhere, it goes there.

Yes, if you are clear about scope. A tiler who says plainly what they handle, and can recommend the other trades, is easier to deal with than a renovation company that subcontracts everything and marks it up. Do not pretend to be a renovation company; the honesty is the pitch.

Careful with it. A bare rate invites comparison against every tiler in the city and hides everything that actually differs, which is preparation, waterproofing and whether the walls were straight. A range is fine if it comes with what is included.

Tile prices, tile shops, Beaumont, Bunnings, DIY tiling, how to tile, tiling courses and tiler wages. A large share of this vertical is shopping for product rather than labour, so the list matters more here than in most trades.

Because a failed membrane is the most expensive thing that can go wrong in a bathroom, and it is the reason bathrooms get ripped out twice. It is licensed work in Queensland, it carries a warranty, and most tiling sites do not mention either. Saying it plainly ends a lot of searches.

They are the argument. A finished bathroom photographs better than almost any trade output, and renovators spend months looking at exactly those pictures. If you have none of your own, collect them before spending anything on advertising.

Google Ads produces quote requests within days on waterproofing and more slowly on the tile terms. The job pages take three to six months to rank. Meta works on a long arc because renovations get planned for months.

We look at whether waterproofing has a real page, how much of your traffic is browsing rather than buying, whether the photographs are yours, and whether your licence and warranty are findable. You get it in writing and you keep it either way.
