What Should a Tradie Website Include to Actually Get More Leads?

Most tradie websites are glorified business cards. They have a logo, a list of services, a phone number buried somewhere in the footer, and maybe a contact form that nobody fills out. And then the tradie wonders why the website isn’t generating any work.

The reality is that a website either works as a lead generation tool or it doesn’t. There’s not much in between. Here’s what a tradie website needs to actually convert visitors into enquiries.

1. A Clear Headline That Says What You Do and Where

When someone lands on your website, they should know within three seconds what you do and whether you service their area. That means your headline needs to be specific. “Welcome to Smith Electrical” tells nobody anything. “Licenced Electricians Serving Brisbane’s Northside” is immediately useful.

Vague headlines are one of the biggest conversion killers on tradie websites. Don’t make people hunt for basic information. Put it front and centre.

2. Your Phone Number Visible at the Top of Every Page

Most people visiting a tradie website want to call. Make it easy. Your phone number should be in the header, visible on every page, and clickable on mobile. If someone has to scroll to find your number, you’ve already lost a chunk of your leads.

On mobile especially, a click-to-call button in the header can dramatically increase the number of people who actually reach out. This is one of the easiest wins on any tradie website.

3. Real Photos of Your Work

Stock photos of smiling tradespeople or generic tools tell potential customers nothing. Real photos of your actual work build trust in a way that no amount of copy can replicate.

Before and after shots work particularly well. A photo of a completed bathroom renovation, a freshly installed switchboard, or a tiled outdoor area gives people a concrete sense of the quality of your work. If you don’t have a library of job photos yet, start taking them this week. It doesn’t need to be professional photography — a decent phone shot in good light is enough.

4. Google Reviews Front and Centre

Social proof is one of the most powerful conversion tools a tradie website can use. If you’ve got a strong Google rating, show it. Embed your reviews, display your star rating, or at minimum pull your best testimonials onto the homepage.

People choosing a tradie are making a trust decision. They’re letting someone into their home or business. Reviews from real customers in their area do a significant amount of the heavy lifting before anyone even picks up the phone.

If you don’t have many Google reviews yet, getting more should be a priority alongside your website improvements.

5. Individual Pages for Each Service

A single “Services” page with a bullet list is almost useless for SEO and not much better for conversions. If you offer multiple services, each one deserves its own dedicated page.

For example, a plumber in Brisbane would want separate pages for hot water systems, blocked drains, bathroom renovations, leak detection, and emergency plumbing. Each page can target specific keywords, answer the questions people have about that service, and include a clear call to action. That’s how you start ranking for searches beyond just your business name.

6. A Fast, Mobile-Optimised Site

More than 70% of tradie website traffic comes from mobile devices. If your site loads slowly or doesn’t display properly on a phone, you’re losing leads before they’ve had a chance to read anything.

Google also factors page speed into search rankings. A slow website doesn’t just frustrate visitors, it actively hurts your ability to show up in search results. You can check your site’s speed for free using Google’s PageSpeed Insights tool.

7. One Clear Call to Action

Every page on your website should tell the visitor exactly what to do next. Call for a free quote. Fill out this form and we’ll get back to you within the hour. Book online. Whatever your preferred next step is, make it obvious and make it easy.

Websites that give visitors too many options or no clear direction tend to convert poorly. Pick one primary action and point everything toward it.

Is Your Website Actually Bringing in Work?

If you’re not sure whether your website is doing its job, the quickest test is to ask yourself: when did someone last call or enquire directly because of the website? If you can’t remember, that’s your answer.
